What is Predictopus?

That eight-legged Nostradamus, Paul the Octopus may be dead, but we believe there is a clairvoyant octopus in all of you. (Yes, even those who do not eat seafood.) Predictopus is Yahoo! Cricket's attempt at allowing you to channel your inner Paul and show your cricketing expertise by making all the right predictions during every match of a series.

How to play Predictopus?

You have 1000 virtual points at the beginning. The aim is to invest these points wisely in predictions about who will win what match during the series. If your predictions turn out right, you earn more points which you can plow back in to other predictions, or get a better ranking on our leaderboard.

But that's not all - you can track the performance of your prediction based on the ever-changing odds and buy or sell them to maximize your points. Think of your predictions as stocks, and just like you can sell or trade stocks on the stock market; you can do so with your predictions.

Note that, at the end of every match the system automatically sells all predictions you have made for the completed match.Also, we allow users the option of resetting their points to 1000, if their net worth falls below that number. This reset can be employed only once a day.

A user can invest up to 10,000 points at one go, or 2% of his available points, whichever is higher.

Want to make your net worth high? Here's a simple thumb rule. Buy when the odds are low, sell when the odds go up. Buy again when the odds go down, sell again when the odds go up. In a match, as and when wickets fall or runs are hit the odds fluctuate. Keep an eye on the match, and PROFIT!

Trophies

Players of Predictopus can now win trophies based on their performance in the game. These trophies are for life, and do not disappear after every series! Find details on how you can win these trophies on the module on the right. There is a separate section called the Trophy Case for every user which showcases the trophies won by the user. Make sure you share your trophies on Facebook and Twitter and let your friends know how much of a champ you are at playing Predictopus. Today, there are up to 15 trophies that can be won by a user, and we plan to add more and more trophies as we go along. And who knows, you may even win some goodies based on the trophies you collect going forward.
